Biography

Professor Cai received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1986 and his Masters of Science in Organic Chemistry in 1989 from the South China University of Technology. In 1996 Cai received his Ph.D. from ETHZurich in Carbohydrate synthesis and was awarded with ETH Medal and Prize for Excellent Ph.D. Dissertation. Cai was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Quantum Electronics, ETH – Zurich in 1996-1999. In 2000, he began teaching at the University of Houston as an Assistant Professor in Chemistry and in 2006 he became an Associate Professor in Chemistry and the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston. Professor Cai was honoured with NSF Early Faculty career Award in 2004. Professor Cai is currently Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Co-Director of the Chemical Biology Interdisciplinary Program and Director of the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory in University of Houston.

Research Interest

Research interests include Organic synthesis, dendrimers, organic thin films, surface reactions, AFM, bio-fouling, protein nanoarrays, AFM tip modification, nanoparticles, and biomaterials.
